Lover of Life

CAROLYN’S LIFE BEFORE YOGA
Before I started yoga I had knee pain and upper back pain. I’ve always enjoyed being active. Walking, running, step aerobics. I love being outdoors and working in my garden.
CAROLYN’S FIRST CLASS
10 years ago my girlfriend Arnetta told me “we are going to hot yoga,” and I said okay. By the end of my first class I thought “what on earth have I done?” I was sore the next day
but my energy levels went way up, so I went back.
CAROLYN’S HEALTH BENEFITS
The mental benefits are excellent. My mind is clear. I’m able to relax and focus. My attitude is positive and I notice that has an affect on others. My sleep is 90% better. My digestion is wonderful. My eating is different, more cravings for heathy food and favoring more plant based foods. I work 4 days a week at a school, and have lots of energy, I don’t feel any pain, and I don’t need to sit down and take breaks. My yoga postures have changed. Standing Head to Knee, as a beginner I couldn’t pick up my foot, now I can do the 4th part.
CAROLYN’S FAVORITE THING
The community of people. Laughing with fellow yoga students, having fun together. People saying “good morning” and asking “how are you?” I love the heat, I’m a hottie! And my son Everal who is 53 comes here, I love taking class with him, we have so much fun together.
CAROLYN’S ADVICE FOR BEGINNERS
Just give it a try. Lay down on your mat if you need to. It’s ok, I’ll take care of you. If you need water, I’ll roll a water bottle over to you. (If you throw up, I’ll help clean it up). And don’t tell me you are too old to come to yoga. “I’m too old” is just making excuses. Age is just a number. You are old, true, but that doesn’t mean you can’t come in and turn things around. If you are overweight this is the best place to be.
I’ve done six yoga challenges over the years. Every beginner should do a 30 day challenge. It grounds you. It humbles you. You become focused. Nothing fogs your mind. The world is at peace with you. You are at peace with the world.
