When was your first class at Thrive, and what did you love most about it?

It was sometime in Spring of 2017. I still recall Somchit was the instructor and she made me welcome to what seemed like a daunting class.

Why did you first start practicing yoga?

I had a cervical discectomy in 2005. This requires me to remain active and flexible especially around the neck and shoulders. I decided to take up yoga practice to achieve this objective.

After taking your first few classes, what did you notice that was different in your life?

I learned to take heat! :-) No, seriously I recall being a little more flexible then I was. I also notice some weight loss.

What impact do you see today in your life from yoga?

In the past 8-10 months, I managed to lose 30 lbs. Feel a lot better, flexibility has improved. My blood pressure and lipid numbers have improved dramatically. Of course I have also complimented my yoga practice by making other lifestyle changes like eating right and regular exercising. Yoga provides the overarching holistic benefit to these choices.

If you practice with a family member or friend, what impact do you see in their life from their practice?

They can definitely derives the same or similar benefits from the practice.

How has your practice evolved since you started?

My balance has improved since my first class. I can do a lot more asanas now while withstanding 90 minutes of heat. I recall my first 2-3 classes I had to step outside the studio to get some air. Now I can have an interrupted session while performing the postures.

What goals do you have for your practice and your health in the next year?

I plan to continue with the practice. There is yet one posture I would like to conquer and that is the "Tree". I will continue working at it. Also I need to shed a few more pounds and continue to monitor my numbers closely.

What advice do you have for beginners?

Well begun is half done. Show up. Duke it out for the first few sessions and things will only get better. If you persevere health benefits and flexibility will follow.

What is your favorite thing about Thrive?

I feel like I belong to a community at Thrive. A friendly face always greets you at checkin and makes you feel welcome.
